The Wisconsin Dells Police Department was established in the year 1868. At that time the town was known as Kilbourn City and the first elected Marshal in charge of Law Enforcement for the city was Marshal George A. Boyd. Kilbourn City grew with the introduction of the railroad and eventually in 1931 was renamed as the city of 'Wisconsin Dells'.

WDPD K9 Unit
About the K9 Program
Our K9 program enhances public safety through specialized services such as narcotics detection, suspect tracking, and officer protection. These highly trained dogs and their handlers play a vital role in law enforcement operations, contributing to safer streets and stronger community engagement.
Meet our K9 Teams
Both our K9 teams play an essential role in law enforcement, bringing dedication, discipline, and loyalty to every mission.

K9 Rocky & Lt Wiese
K9 Rocky has been proudly serving since 2018. Rocky is an experienced Belgian Malinois who continues to work alongside his handler, Lt. Ben Wiese. Together, they form a highly skilled team committed to public safety and community service.

K9 Vader & Ofc Zibell
K9 Vader joined the force in 2023. Also a Belgian Malinois, Vader works with handler Officer Blake Zibell. Though newer to the team, Vader has already proved to be a valuable asset in the field.
How Donated K9 Funds Are Used
The K9 program is funded strictly through donations. This makes community support essential to maintaining and advancing the work of our K9 teams. Donations to the K9 program directly support the health, safety, and effectiveness of our K9 teams. Contributions help cover:
- K9 & Handler training and certification
- Equipment (bite sleeves, squad kennel, temperature safety gear, harnesses, etc.)
- General dog maintenance items (food, treats, toys, etc.)
- Veterinary services
- K9 purchase
Your support ensures our K9 officers remain well-trained, properly equipped, and ready to serve. Donations via cash, check or money order can be mailed or dropped off directly to the PD. Online donations accepted through the link below (service fees apply).
