Did you know the City of Wisconsin Dells was a Tree City?  We are one of more than 3400 communities that participate in the Tree City USA Program.

What is a Tree City?  Tree City is a program sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. It provides direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs.

What are the benefits of being a Tree City?

  • It creates a framework for action by providing standards to help a community get started on annual, systematic management of its tree resources.
  • It provides education from the state's forester staff which can be in the form of technical advice, literature, films, and other assistance.
  • It tells residents and visitors that our community cares about its environment.
  • Trees are the principle generators of pure oxygen and they clean pollutants from the air.
  • Trees purify ground water and stabilize the soil.
  • Trees reduce energy costs by providing shade in the summer and blocking winds in the winter.
  • Trees can add value to real estate.
  • Trees are a refuge for wildlife

How can you help?  Participate in the Tree Tribute Program.  Citizens and businesses participating in this program not only leave a living, growing legacy for future generations, but they assist in beautifying the city.

Tribute Tree Program

This program encourages the purchase of trees as a means of gifting or paying tribute to individuals or groups; or to honor any special occasion. Trees will be planted this Spring.  Makes a great gift for Christmas, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Retirements, Graduations, Births and Weddings! Click Here for an application.

If you are interested in having a tree planted or been contacted by the city to make a potential selection, click the link below. It will bring you to a google doc serving as a roster for all the trees that grow within the area. Please note that the tree names themselves are links/previews to information about the species and are listed regardless of availability from the city or local nurseries. They are also not verified as to how they will grow on your property. They are listed in respect to plot size, which the specifics of which for your site should be provided to you. If not or you wish to initiate your own planting request, you can look up your property on the city tree map to determine if any existing planting sites have already been mapped there, and what size.

The listing of trees below  is an old, outdated listing, kept for referential purposes. These trees may still be available at local nurseries should you be interested, though the prompts have little in common to where they link.
